Katrina Update #6

August 29, 2005; 1:39 AM

First, thanks to all of you who either called or sent an email. It is truly heart warming to know we have so many friends out there!

As of 1AM Central time 8/29, Janis, Jarret, Andrea (Cary's girlfriend) and her brother have pulled off the road to catch some shuteye. They are about 30 miles from the Texas border and out of harm's way. Adam, his girlfriend and girlfriend's mother are traveling through some pretty intense thunderstorms, but largely out of harm's way (finally) east of Tallahassee, Florida - on their way to Winter Haven near Orlando.

Katrina is swerving a bit to the right, which is good news. It is now forecast to be a Category 4 and to go east of New Orleans by about 5 or 10 miles further than originally thought. Flooding is virtually assured, but they are now thinking winds will be between 50 and 100 mph - which means we may actually have a home to go to at some point.

We have heard from several people, as follows:

- Joe Fontana is safe in Natchez, MS with his girlfriend and her daughter, out of harm's way.

- Fay and her family are in Jackson, MS - not entirely out of harm's way, but probably safe enough.

- Kathleen and Kattai are safe in Texas, near Houston.

- Sean and Juli evacuated, but we don't know where.

- Cheryl, Bubba, Tom Taylor, and Laura Roe are in a hotel, on the 7th floor, in the CBD.

- Last I talked to Jason and Amber, they were holed up in a house, even though I pleaded with them to go to the Superdome.

- I was able to get through to Coop's voice mail, but do not know whether he left or not.

If you don't know who these people are, I apologize, but they are very dear friends to us. I included this information for those of you who do know them and would want to know their status.

I'll send another update after sunrise. Time to try to get some sleep.
