Many of our friends and extended family members have offered Janis and myself money and places to stay. We are so grateful for all the offers. We are so much more fortunate than other victims because most of our income is not dependant on anyone or anything in New Orleans. Our home is still intact, had no flooding, and sustained hardly any damage.

What many people are telling us is that they would like to give money to someone where they know it will do some good, rather than to an organization where they are not sure how the money will be used. Janis and I discussed this, and have decided to provide an alternative for anyone who feels this way.

Coop lost everything except what he has in his bar and the apartment above it. My son Cary and his girlfriend Andrea lost all their belongings, except what they could bring with them and a small portion (about 5%) of what was above water in the apartment, including a bedroom set that was mine when I was a child. We have many friends who have been displaced from their homes.

So here is our proposal: I have a PayPal account that I rarely use. If you would like to donate money, and trust me to be a good steward of your funds you can PayPal it to me. Here's the link:

If you have trouble with PayPal, please email me.
By donating, you agree to release the amount of the donation into my custody, to be sent for victims of Katrina or Katrina relief efforts. It is understood these funds are not refundable and will be distributed based on decisions made by Chuck and Janis Rogers. Possible uses of these funds include, but are not limited to:
Please understand, funds may not be distributed for weeks or even months. Any remaining funds not distributed to those we know who are in need will be given to the Red Cross or an appropriate agency that Janis and I are confident will also be good stewards of the funds. I am not affiliated with any charitable organization, and therefore your donation will not be deductable on your taxes, except as a gift.

If you would prefer, the direct links to the Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross web sites are below. Of the two, I would recommend the Habitat for Humanity. Not only does Lia Iverson work for them, but they will be a very big part of rebuilding New Orleans, especially in the devestated 9th ward.
