Katrina Update #40

October 8, 2005; 6:00 PM

Coop's Place continues to thrive as more people return to the city than there are restaurants open to serve them. Cary said that last night was his second best night since he started working there last July! Cary spent today cleaning the CDs we managed to salvage from his apartment. They were under water and the sleeves had stuck to the CDs. Cary spent all day soaking them in warm soapy water, getting the stuck paper off, drying them, then immediately ripping them to a hard drive.

Janis, Jarret, and Andrea made it back today. They are road-weary, but thrilled to be home.

I finally had time to edit the video I took. I have added several short movies to the Gallery page. You can see Bourbon Street, Traveling through the French Quarter to Coop's Place, the lack of tree canopies on Napoleon St. and St. Charles Avenue, the Moonwalk, which shows the Comfort Hospital ship and the New Orleans skyline (which doesn't look all that different), and a short video showing some debris and damage along a portion of St. Charles.

We'll head off to Coop's Place tonight for dinner. Mostly because we don't have enough for everyone to eat here in the house and they aren't delivering pizza yet, but also so Andrea and Janis can get a good welcome home. BTW, it is Janis's b-day tomorrow (10/9) and Andrea's on Monday (10/10). I don't know Andrea's email address, but I am sure Janis would be tickled to get a happy birthday message from whoever would care to send one.
